What the Citizen Education Foundation Means to the LWV C-M

The Citizen Education Foundation (CEF) is the 501 (c)(3) citizen education and research arm of the League of Women Voters of North Carolina. The CEF provides research, publications and forums on public policy issues and disseminates information and training that helps citizens be thoughtfully engaged in the democratic process. CEF funds may be used only for educational activities not for advocacy or action. As in communities across the nation, LWV C-M, using its CEF funds, is well known for providing voters with factual, nonpartisan information on candidates and ballot issues and candidate/ballot issues forums. The LWV C-M uses its CEF funds for such popular voter education activities as registering new citizens to vote and the high school voter registration project, in which high school organizations that successfully conduct voter registration drives receive a $100 honorarium. Our candidate's forums and other educational activities are also funded through CEF. League members and friends have received a letter asking for a contribution to the CEF for our voter education program - especially important for the upcoming 2008 elections. LWV C-M has and will continue to seek funding for CEF through grants. But grant funds are "running out" and have not yet been replaced. Please respond to the letter asking for a tax deductible donation to CEF. Contributions in any amount are welcome. Make your check payable to the Citizen Education Foundation and send to Becka Tait, LWV C-M Treasurer, 4526 Nora's Path Rd., Charlotte, NC 28226.
