The LWVCM--along with its public education advocacy partners--will hold a press conference on May 20, 2025 (Meck Dec Day) at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center at 5:00 PM.

The goal of the press conference is to call out the tyranny of the North Carolina General Assembly with regard to withholding funding from our public schools. We will encourage our fellow citizens to join us in putting pressure on the North Carolina General Assembly to significantly increase funding to provide competitive raises for teachers.

The state budget is currently moving through the House after the Senate passed its version, a version which continues to underfund public schools and provides a pittance of a raise for teachers while providing a dramatic increase in vouchers for private schools and substantial raises to other state workers.

In addition to educating the public about the proposed budget, the press conference will provide specific actions citizens can take to demand a state budget that addresses the needs of our public schools.
